Wagon Train A group of covered wagons that followed a trail into the frontier.
Homestead an area of public land in the West - usually 160 acres - granted to any US citizen willing to settle and farm the land for at least five years
Frontier the extreme limit of settled land beyond which lies wilderness
Sodbuster A person who creates their home on the Great Plains by stacking up pieces of sod or ground.
Natural Resources materials or substances such as minerals, forests, water, and fertile land that occur in nature and can be used for economic gain.
Persecution hostility and ill-treatment, especially on the basis of ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation or political beliefs.
Cartography the science or practice of drawing maps.
Commerce the activity of buying and selling or trading with other groups of people.
Transcontinental Something that crosses across a whole continent.
