| Homestead | an area of public land in the West - usually 160 acres - granted to any US citizen willing to settle and farm the land for at least five years |
| Frontier | the extreme limit of settled land beyond which lies wilderness |
| Sodbuster | A person who creates their home on the Great Plains by stacking up pieces of sod or ground. |
| Natural Resources | materials or substances such as minerals, forests, water, and fertile land that occur in nature and can be used for economic gain. |
