| Political culture | General values, beliefs, and behaviors of a society. It typically determines what can and can’t be said, and/or done. |
| Political ideology | A set of individual beliefs on how a society or civilization should be run in a social, political, and economic way |
| Political cleavages | The cracks, inequality, and opposing political arguments that divide a society. Class, Urban / Rural, Race, Gender, Quebecois / Anglo Canadians, etc |
| Canada is a democracy vs Canada is a Colonial state | Dominant - Popular sovereignty, political equality, political freedom, balancing majority role and minority rights. Counter - It's built on stolen land and relies on the exclusion, oppression, and erasure of Indigenous peoples |
| Civic nationalism and tolerance vs Anti-Immigration | Dominant - National identity is based on civic values and institutions, not tied to ethno-racial identity. We are free of racial or ethnic tension. Counter - Increase in white supremacy organizations, anti-religious wear in government, and mass murder. |
| Regionalism related to Quebec | Quebec wants to do things their way and get special treatment, rights, and consideration. |
| Constitution | Supreme law of Canada, distributing government powers. Invalidates conflicting laws. Combines written and unwritten rules, including the Constitution Acts (1867 & 1982), the Charter, and federal-provincial power division. |
| Colonialism | An ongoing system established to dispossess land from indigenous people, exploit the land for resources, and erase the history and rights of indigenous people |
| Settler Colonialism | The replacement of Indigenous people through population displacement (migration) |
