TermDefinition
caste A European term used to describe the social classes of traditional Hindu society.
citadel A stronghold, often used to protect a city.
dharma In Hinduism, obedience to the law that orders the universe.
granary A building for storing threshed grain.
Hinduism An ancient religion developed in India that is still practiced by large numbers of people.
karma The sum of a person's actions, which influence his or her destiny.
monsoon A wind from the southwest or south that brings heavy rainfall to southern Asia in the summer.
reincarnation Rebirth of the soul in another body.
sanskrit An ancient Indian language that is the language of Hinduism and the Vedas.
subcontinent A large landmass, like India, that is part of a larger continent.
Vedas Ancient sacred Hindu texts, written in sanskrit.
