Oval depressions in the soil in the Inner Coastal Plain. They look like swamps surrounded by trees. Scientists disagree about their origins. Carolina Bays
A landform region that extends along the fall zone. It contains red hills in the south and white sandhills to the north. It was once the sea coast. Sandhill region
The largest landform region. It contains 1/3 of the state. It's name means the foothills. Piedmont
Also known as the Alpine Region and contains about 500 square miles of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The highest peak in South Carolina is located here, Sassafras Mountain. Blue Ridge region
