classical civilization | advanced state of development in human society, marked by progress in the arts and sciences, the extensive use of record-keeping, including writing, and the appearance of complex political and social institutions |
democracy | a form of government in wich people choose leaders by voting |
dynasty | a family of rulers who rule over a country for a long period of time |
empire | a group of countries or regions that are controlled by one ruler or one government |
golden age | a period of peace, prosperity, and cultural achievement |
gynaeceum | rooms in a Greek house set aside for women |
krater | a larger vase used to mix wine and water in Abcient Greece |
monarchy | a form of government with a king or queen at the head who inherits the position due to his/her family |
oligarchy | a small group of people having control of a country |
periodization | dividing a subject into historical eras for purposes of analysis |
republic | a country that is governed by elected representatives and by an elected leader (such as a president) rather than by an inherite king or queen |
