TermDefinition
Judicial branch Judges and ensures constitution is respected (Supreme Court, lower courts)
Legislative branch Formalized process of turning bills into laws, represents the people (House of Commons and Senate)
Head of Government(Prime Minister) Serves based on support of the legislative branch and is not directly elected
Bureaucracy Provides neutral advice to government and implements policy
Executive branch Makes day to day decisions, where real power is exercised (Prime Minister and Cabinet)
Federal State Power is divided between the federal (national) government and the provinces in the constitution. 
Settler Colonial State Power is divided between the federal (national) government and the provinces in the constitution. 
Head of State (Governor General/King) "The king reigns but does not rule". The head of state is the monarchy but the powers of that position are limited by constitutional rules. AKA constitutional monarch
Constitution The supreme law of the land and bestows power to different positions in government. Supreme law of the land. If laws contradict it, it's invalid. Made of written and unwritten rules
