Watergate Scandal A break-in at the Democratic National Committee offices was carried out under the direction of White House employees. Disclosure of the White House involvement in the break-in & subsequent cover-up forced President Nixon to resign in 1974.
Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty (SALT) leaders of the US and the Soviet Union agreed to limit their nations' stocks of nuclear weapons
Reaganomics the economic policies of the former US president Ronald Reagan, associated especially with the reduction of taxes and the promotion of unrestricted free-market activity.
Camp David Accords (1978) Peace treaty between Egypt and Israel; hosted by US President Jimmy Carter; caused Egypt to be expelled from the Arab league; created a power vacuum that Saddam hoped to fill; first treaty of its kind between Israel and an Arab state
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Legislation passed in 1990 that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities. Under this Act, discrimination against a disabled person is illegal in employment, transportation, public accommodations, communications and government activities.
Persian Gulf War (1990 - 1991) Conflict between Iraq and a coalition of countries led by the United States to remove Iraqi forces from Kuwait which they had invaded in hopes of controlling their oil supply. A very one sided war with the United States emerging victorious.
Operation Desert Storm (1991) American-led multinational forces that quickly defeated Iraqi forces under Saddam Hussein in the First Gulf War, ending the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait.
2000 Election Bush v. Gore, very controversial-Bush won (lost popular vote, won electoral vote)
No Child Left Behind Act (2001) Requires the states to set standards & measurable goals that can improve individual outcomes in education.Represents a dramatic expansion of the federal role in education.
September 11, 2001 Terrorist attacks on World Trade Center and Pentagon
War on Terror Initiated by President George W. Bush after the attacks of September 11, 2001, the broadly defined war on terror aimed to weed out terrorist operatives and their supporters throughout the world.
Hurricane Katrina (2005) Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast and devastated large parts of Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. New Orleans was also flooded.
Affordable Care Act law passed in 2010 to expand American access to healthcare
Y2K bug (2000) A computer flaw that may have caused problems when dealing with dates beyond December 31, 1999.
