| Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty (SALT) | leaders of the US and the Soviet Union agreed to limit their nations' stocks of nuclear weapons |
| Reaganomics | the economic policies of the former US president Ronald Reagan, associated especially with the reduction of taxes and the promotion of unrestricted free-market activity. |
| Camp David Accords (1978) | Peace treaty between Egypt and Israel; hosted by US President Jimmy Carter; caused Egypt to be expelled from the Arab league; created a power vacuum that Saddam hoped to fill; first treaty of its kind between Israel and an Arab state |
| Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) | Legislation passed in 1990 that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities. Under this Act, discrimination against a disabled person is illegal in employment, transportation, public accommodations, communications and government activities. |
