| secondary source | a document or other record of past events created by someone who was not present during he events or the time period in which they occurred |
| artifact | an object made or used by people in the past |
| primary source | a document or other record of past events created by someone who was present during the events or the time period in which they occurred |
| inquiry | in history, the process of exploring the answers to questions about a certain time and place |
| point of view | a person's way of thinking about or approaching a subject, as shaped by their character, experience, culture, and history |
| ensure | to make sure or certain |
| chronology | the order in which events occur, or the arrangement of events in the order in which they occur |
| refine | remove unwanted elements, improve something |
| argument | the position that researches take about a particular topic, based on the evidence that they have gathered |
| bias | a personal learning or a preference for a particular outlook |
| historical interpretation | the process of finding the meaning or significance of historical events |
| compelling question | a question that does not have a simple or direct answer, but which requires some thought and investigation to answer |
| supporting question | answer based on factual information that can be researched and proven. Supporting questions can help to answer compelling questions. |
