| Navigator | A person who is trained to plan the course and sail a ship |
| Commissioned | Chosen and sent to do something important, paid to do something. |
| Colony | A group of people in one place who are ruled by a parent country elsewhere. |
| Alliance | An agreement to work together. |
| Mutany | A rebellion against the leader of a group. |
| Ancestor | A relative who lived in the past. |
| Adapt | Change to fit new conditions. |
| Culture | Beliefs, customs and traditions of a specific group of people. |
| Ally | A friend or someone who supports you; in this case during war. |
| Taxes | Money you are required to pay to the government. |
| Townshend Act | A tax that the British Parliament passed in 1767 that was placed on glass, paint and tea. |
| Stamp Act | Required colonists to pay tax on stamps, newspapers, cards, dice and various legal documents. |
| Conflict | A disagreement or struggle between two or more sides. |
| Protest | Refusing to do something in order to make a change. |
| Morale | The spirit of a group that makes the members want the group to succeed. |
| Crisis | A time of intense difficulty, trouble, or danger. |
