Civil War Basic Voca

TermDefinition
Union Army The army that fought for the North during the American Civil War.
Confederate Army The army that fought for the South during the American Civil War.
Border States Slave states that didn't leave the Union during the Civil war.
“The Blue” Nickname given to the Northern or Union Army during the Civil War because of the color of their uniforms.
“The Grey” Nickname given to the Confederate or Southern Army during the Civil War because of their Uniforms.
Yankees A soldier fighting with the North or Union during the American Civil War.
Rebels A soldier who fought with the South or Confederate States during the American Civil War.
Dixie (Dixieland) A term used to refer to the Southern states or Confederate States of America.
Confederate States of America A group of 11 southern states that seceded from the Union in 1860.
The Union A nickname for the country of the United States of America or the North during the Civil War.
