| Indigenous | People that are native to a certain area. |
| conquistadors | leaders of the Spanish military that believed in war and conquest. |
| Viceroyalty | land that is ruled by an official chosen by the King & Queen. |
| viceroy | the official who was selected by the King & Queen who and sent to the Americans to set up New Spain. |
| bison | buffalo; a main food source for Native Americans Indians; never seen by the Spanish. |
| shamans | Native American Medicine Men that were viewed as healers; physics, and leaders. |
| Alonzo Alvarez de Pineda | led on the early Spanish expeditions in the Northern part of New Spain. He searched for a water route to the Pacific ocean. In 1519, he sailed along the coast the gulf of Mexico from Florida to Mexico and made the first map of Texas. |
| Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca | was one of the Europeans to extensively explore the land that became Texas. |
| Cibola | The rumored city of Gold that was thought to be located in the Arizona- New Mexico area. Many conquistadors sought it out, but it was never found. |

| Fort St.Louis | after accidently sailing past the Mississippi, La Salle men Shipwrecked in Texas. They constructed a French Fort here where most of his men died from Starvation and sickness or Indian attacks. The fort was abandoned & La Salle murdered by his men. |
