What is a federal system of government? A federal system of government is a government in which the central government has the highest authority but shares power with state governments. The federal system was created by the constitution.
How are checks and balances related to the idea of separation of powers? Separation of powers gives each branch its own specific authority but checks and balances the limit the power of any one branch over another. Together, they keep the government from becoming too powerful.
What is the main purpose of a representative government? The main purpose of a representative government is to act in the people’s best interests and protect people’s rights. The Unites States of America has a representative government.
Why do citizens have duties and responsibilities as well as rights? Citizens have duties and responsibilities to ensure that rights are respected, that the voice of the people is heard in government, and the communities can be protected and strengthened

Why does the United States government have separation of powers? To make sure no one branch can become too powerful
