Diffusion The spread of intangible assets like religion, music ideas, or culture.
Silk Road An important trade route that connected the ancient world.
Caravan a group (as of merchants or pilgrims) traveling together on a long journey through desert or dangerous regions
Silent Barter a method by which traders who cannot speak each other's language can trade without talking. (hand signals for trade)
Feudalism a system of political organization (as in Europe during the Middle Ages) in which a vassal served a lord and received protection and land in return
Medieval of, relating to, or characteristic of the Middle Ages
Lords A person who has power and authority
Knights a warrior of olden times who fought on horseback, served a king, held a special military rank, and swore to behave in a noble way
Vassals a person in the Middle Ages who received protection and land from a lord in return for loyalty and service
Manor a big piece of land
Serf a servant or laborer of olden times who was treated as part of the land worked on and went along with the land if it was sold
Chivalry a body of knights
Clergy the group of religious officials (as priests, ministers, or rabbis) specially prepared and authorized to conduct religious services
Daimyo (in feudal Japan) one of the great lords who were vassals of the shogun.
Samurai a warrior serving a Japanese feudal lord and practicing a code of conduct which valued honor over life
