Bacterial Inhibitons
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Chloramphenicol | Inihibits bacterial protein sythesis by blocking peptidyltransferase |
| Streptomycin | Inhibits prokaryotic peptide chain initiation, also cuases misreading |
| Tetracycline | Inhibits prokaryotic aminoacyl-tRNA binding to the ribosomal small unit |
| Neomycin | Similar activity to streptomycin |
| Erythromycin | Inhibits prokaryote translocation through the large ribosomal subunit |
| Fusidic acid | Similar to erythromycin only by preventing EF-G from dissociating from the large subunit |
| Puromycin | Resembles amino acyl-tRNA inteferes with peptide transfer resulting in premature termination in eukaryotes and prokayotes |
| Diptheria toxin | Catalyzes ADP-ribosylation and inactivation of eEF-2 |
| Ricin | Found in castor beans, catalyze cleavage of the eukaryotic large subunit rRNA |
| Cyclohexamide | Inhibits eukaryotic peptidyltransferase |
| Adriamycin (treatment of tumors) | Intercalate double stranded DNA |
| Bloom's syndrome | Defects in DNA helicase (chromosome breaks) |
| Faconi's Anemia | strand breaks |
