Bacterial Inhibitons
Question | Answer |
---|---|
Chloramphenicol | Inihibits bacterial protein sythesis by blocking peptidyltransferase |
Streptomycin | Inhibits prokaryotic peptide chain initiation, also cuases misreading |
Tetracycline | Inhibits prokaryotic aminoacyl-tRNA binding to the ribosomal small unit |
Neomycin | Similar activity to streptomycin |
Erythromycin | Inhibits prokaryote translocation through the large ribosomal subunit |
Fusidic acid | Similar to erythromycin only by preventing EF-G from dissociating from the large subunit |
Puromycin | Resembles amino acyl-tRNA inteferes with peptide transfer resulting in premature termination in eukaryotes and prokayotes |
Diptheria toxin | Catalyzes ADP-ribosylation and inactivation of eEF-2 |
Ricin | Found in castor beans, catalyze cleavage of the eukaryotic large subunit rRNA |
Cyclohexamide | Inhibits eukaryotic peptidyltransferase |
Adriamycin (treatment of tumors) | Intercalate double stranded DNA |
Bloom's syndrome | Defects in DNA helicase (chromosome breaks) |
Faconi's Anemia | strand breaks |
