| Ice Age | a period of extremely low temperatures during which much of Earth’s water was frozen into glaciers |
| glacier | a huge, thick sheet of ice |
| irrigation | a method of bringing water to dry land through a series of ditches or pipes |
| migrate | to move from one location to another |
| artifact | an object made by people in the past from which history can be learned |
| archaeology | the study of the artifacts of people from long ago |
| mesa | a high landform with a flat top and steep sides |
| drought | a long period with no rain |
| empire | a large area where the land and people are controlled by one ruler or government |
| pyramid | a monumental structure with a square or triangle base and sides that slope to meet at a point at the top |
