European Colonization in the Americas

| coureurs de bois | French fur trappers who learned many sills from the Indigenous people with whom they worked and lived |
| conquistadors | Spanish soldiers who accompanied ship captains and merchants in the Americas. These soldiers took land and resources from the Indigenous people of Mexico and Peru, usually by violent means. |
| Columian Exchange | the exchange of plants, animals, diseases, and people across the Atlantic Ocean between Europe and the Americas |
| domesticated | plants or animals that live and breed in a human environment; tame. |
| Slavery | the treatment of people as property. People who are denied freedom in this way are said to be enslaved. |
| techniques | a specialized method used to achieve a desired result |
| missionaries | people who travel to a territory or community in order to convert people to their religion |
| colony | a new settlement or territory established and govern ed by a country in another land |
| convert | to change a person's religious beliefs so they accept a different or new religion |
| impact | to have a direct effect on a person or thing |
| revolt | a violent action in opposition to a government or law |
