Jerusalem A holy city for Muslims, Christians, and Jews
Caliph A ruler of a Muslim community
Caliphate An Islamic form of government in which religious and political leadership is united
Mosque Muslim place of worship
Innovation Something new that is created
Adaptation A change made to an existing object or idea
Minaret Tower of a mosque from which Muslims are called to prayer
Muezzin The man who calls Muslims to prayer
Imam The person who leads Muslims in prayer
Crusades A series of religious and political wars from 1095 to 1280; launched by European Christians to reclaim Jerusalem and other Holy cities from the Muslims
