| bison | buffalo; a main food source for Native American Indians; never seen by the Spanish. |
| shamans | Native American Medicine Men that were viewed as healers, physics, and leaders. |
| Alonso Alvarez de Pineda | led on the early Spanish expeditions in the Northern part of New Spain. He searched for a water route to the Pacific ocean. In 1519, he sailed along the of the Gulf of Mexico from Florida to Mexico and made first map of Texas. |
| Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca | was one of the first Europeans to extensively explore the land that became Texas. |
