Father Escalante's Journal Contains the 1st written description of Utah and it's native people.
Father Escalante Led the expedition to California. Seven places in Utah are named after him.( Escalante Desert, Escalante Valley, Escalante Mountains, Escalante River, Escalante Petrified Forest, Escalante Grand Staircase National Park, and the town of Escalante.
Miera Was the map mapmaker on the expedition. He named the rivers mountains and valleys. He also sketched the land and natives.
Escalante and Dominquez Introduced the American natives to Christianity. Learned how to survive from the natives.
The Race for Fur Beaver pelts were used in clothing, so trappers came into Utah from the British fur trading company in 1820. Brittan, Russia, Mexico, and the US wanted to control the west. Places were named after trappers like Ogden who was named after Peter Skene Ogden.
Fur Trade Men trapped fur in Utah for 20 years. Fashion changed so the trappers had to find other jobs like farming, or guides. Some even became map makers.
