TermDefinition
Society An organized group of people who have something in common (religion, culture, government).
Mercantilism An economic theory and practice that emphasizes a country's wealth and power by maximizing exports and minimizing imports.
Imperialism A policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force.
Diverse Different, varied.
Consolidate To bring together or unite.
Coerced To make someone do something or give something by using force or threats
Cash Cropping The practice of growing crops for profit, rather than for personal use.
Ascendency Being in a position of dominant power or influence.
Maintain To keep something together or keep as is.
Empire A group of once separate areas now ruled by a single person or government.
Cultural Diffusion The spread of cultural ideas, beliefs, and practices from on culture to another, or within a single culture.
Conquer To take over by force
Columbian Exchange The transfer of diseases, food, plants, animals, etc., between the Western and Eastern hemispheres.
Missionary A person sent to promote religion in a foreign place.
