Hunter-Gatherers an early human who lived by gathering plants and hunting wild animals.
Hieroglyphs a type of ancient writing that uses pictures for words.
Mesa a flat-topped hill with steep sides.
Oral History Spoken records, including stories that have been passed down from one generation to the next.
Prairie flat or gently rolling land covered mostly with grasses and wildflowers.
Totem poles a tall carved log used by Native Americans of the Northwest Coast to honor an important person or to mark an important event
Slash and burn A method for clearing land for farming by cutting and burning trees.
Harvest to take and gather such crops as wheat and corn for use.
