Proclamation Act of 1763 Passed by the British, colonists were not allowed to settle in the Ohio River Valley after the French and Indian War. Used to appease Native Americans.
Stamp Act Tax on paper products, such as newspaper, legal documents, and playing cards.
Revolutionary War a War fought between the British and the Americans over American independence.
French and Indian War a War fought between the French and the British in North America over the Ohio Valley.
Ohio Valley The land west of the Appalachian Mountains that the French and British fought over.
Townshend Acts Tax on imported goods/every day items. Colonists begin to smuggle in goods.
Tea Act Tax on tea, leads to the Boston Tea Party.
Boston Massacre Conflict between colonists and British soldiers due to tensions over the Quartering Act and the multiple taxes.
Boston Tea Party Sons of Liberty threw tea off of ships in the Boston harbor to protest the Tea Act.
Declaration of Independence Signed July 4th, 1776 declaring American independence from Great Britain.
Battle of Yorktown Battle where the British surrendered at the end of the Revolutionary War. Americans won with the help of the French.
Treaty of Paris 1783, ended the Revolutionary War.
Patriots Colonists who supported war with Great Britain.
Loyalists Colonists who were loyal to Great Britain.
Quakers Religious group that settled in the Middle colonies that believed in acceptance.
Puritans Strict religious group that settled in New England that believed in predestination and was involved in the Salem witch trials.
