The Federalist 1788, important for constitutional interpretation.
Strict construction Dividing issue among federalists and antifederalist = interpretation of constitution, anything that isn't said in the constitution can't happen vs anything that isn't said can happen
Battle of Long Island 1776, disaster for the colonists
Battle of Quebec 1759, important British victory during F&I War
Valley Forge 1777-1778, American people under Washington's command starve and froze there.
Royal African Company Monopolized slave trade from 1672-1698
New York Slave Revolt Led to harsher punishments for slaves -- not as big as Bacon's
Whigs Patriot supporters in England-- some American partiots called this + radical
nonimportation agreements Result of The Association, boycotting- effective against British
The Association Boycotting after 1774 first continental congress
committees of correspondence 1772, MA, spread spirit of resistance through letters and pamphlets
Albany Congress Ben Franklin proposed a home-rule plan too extreme for both sides
Bacons Rebellion 1676, resulted in new efforts to raise poor white men to same legal standard as rich white men -> fall of indetured servants.
Shay's Rebellion 1786, MA, sparked fear of mob rule among leading revolutionaries + showed weakness of articles
excise tax Tax on goods produced domestically, controversial part of Hamilton's financial plan.
tariff Tax on imported goods, benefited producers and did NOT benefit farmers.
Whiskey Rebellion 1794, uprising in response to excise tax -- showcased power of executive when Washington crushed them.
admirality courts During F&I War, courts w/o juries for those who disobeyed the Navigation Laws.
Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom 1786, model for first ammendment- separation of church and state
Quebec Act Allowed French Canadians to border colonists, poorly received
