John Adams Well known Massachusetts lawyer who defended the soldiers in the Boston Massacre trial
Patrick Henry Virginian who urged people to take up arms in the revolution; "Give me liberty of give me death!"
Stamp Act Required all colonists to buy special tax stamps for paper goods such as newspapers, wills, licenses, land titles, and other documents
Writ of assistance court order allowing searches without having reason
Treaty of Paris (1763) Ended the French and Indian War and forced France to give up their land west of the Appalachians to the British
Proclamation of 1763 Banned colonial settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains
Repeal an official end to something
William Pitt British Prime Minister who sought top generals and helped turn the tide of the French and Indian War
Townshend Acts Set up a system to enforce new import duties which included taxes on tea, glass, paper, and cloth
Quartering Act required colonists to house British troops as well as provide them with food and other supplies
Boston Massacre angry colonists surrounded British soldiers in Boston leading to 5 colonists dead and 6 wounded
