| Loyalist | a colonist who supported Great Britain's right to rule |
| Tory | a colonist who was loyal to Great Britain during the American Revolutionary War |
| militia | a group of ordinary citizens who organize themselves for military service |
| topography | the physical elevation and features of an area of land |
| minutement | colonial militia who would be ready to fight on a minutes' notice |
| Black Regiment | a unit of the Continental Army that allowed the recruitment of African Americans |
| Redcoats | British soldiers, especially during the American Revolutionary War |
| patriot | someone who loves and supports their country |
