TermDefinition
Indigenous Originating or occurring naturally in a particular place
Culture The customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group
Colony Area under the full or partial control of another country
Plantation An estate on which crops such as coffee, sugar, and tobacco are cultivated by resident labor
Proprietary Owner of a colony who has been granted as an individual or as part of a group, the full rights of self-government
Salutary Neglect Policy of the British government where trade regulations for the colonies were not strictly enforced and supervision of internal colonial affairs was loose
Economy The wealth and resources of a country or region, especially in terms of the production and consumption of goods and services
