What is an indentured servant? a system in which a person agrees to work for another for a certain amount of time in exchange for passage to North America and land when the contract expires.
What was the House of Burgesses? America's first representative assembly created in Jamestown

What was the main industry the French focused on the North America? the fur trade
What issue led to the outbreak of King Philip's War? The reason for the war was that King Philip believed that the Plymouth Colony was not honoring the treaty between the colony and his tribe and taking more of their land.
What was the Mayflower Compact? An agreement to set rules for self-governance in Plymouth. "...combine ourselves together into a civil body politik.." established by the English settlers (Pilgrims) who traveled to the New World on the Mayflower.
What is a joint-stock company ? The Virginia Company- a business that is owned by a group of people (investors) who have purchased shares in the company. The company's capital (wealth) is made up of the pooled (collected) capital of its members.
What was Bacon's Rebellion? An armed rebellion by Virginia settlers that took place from 1676 to 1677. It was led by Nathaniel Bacon against Colonial Governor William Berkeley, after Berkeley refused Bacon's request to drive Native American out of Virginia
Who founded the colony of Rhode Island? Roger Williams
Which colony is known as the "lost colony"? Roanoke
Who helped Jamestown by establishing strict rules like, “He that will not work, shall not eat.”? John Smith
Who was Pocahontas? Daughter of Powhatan chief. Married John Rolfe and helped keep peace between Jamestown colonists and the Powhatan people.
Which two colonies, established by the Pilgrims and Puritans, were created to escape religious persecution? Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay Colony
What are some ways Indigenous Peoples were impacted by European colonization in the Americas? Many died from diseases many lost lands many were enslaved
How did the arrival of women in the colony of Jamestown help it succeed? It helped establish families and a more stable, long-term community.
What are cash crops? Crops that can be sold for big profits. Examples: tobacco, sugarcane, indigo
Why did Plymouth Governor William Bradford, organize a feast of thanksgiving? To celebrate and share a meal with the Wampanoag people to give thanks for their survival through a difficult time.
Which group founded the Massachusetts Bay Colony? What was the main goal of this colony? The Puritans. They wanted to establish "a city on a hill", a model Christian society.
Why did Puritans believe it was important for both boys and girls to learn to read and write? Puritans believed everyone should be able to read the Bible for themselves.
Who was banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony for speaking against some Puritan religious beliefs and leading Bible studies in her home? Anne Hutchinson
