Rights, Duties and Responsbilities

Civics the study of the rights, duties and responsibilities of citizens
citizen people who live in a certain place or are a member of a certain community; can also mean people who are legally recognized by a nation as owing loyalty to that nation and being entitled to protection by the nation

Rights privilege or claim to something
Duties something that you are required to do by law and there is a penalty if you do not do them
Responsibilities things you SHOULD do but are not required by law to do them
Naturalization A legal process to obtain citizenship
Oath of Allegiance an oath that must be taken by all individuals gaining citizenship through naturalization
Treason the act of betraying your country
betraying being disloyal
Pledge of Allegiance A promise citizens of the United States make to be true to their flag and all that it stands for
The Star Spangled Banner The national anthem of the United States written by Francis Scott Key
Independence Day July 4, 1776
Bill of Rights The first ten amendments to the United States Constitution
Selective Service System The system used in the United States to draft young people into armed service.
