What shapes did the mounds make from the sky? The mounds made the shapes of animals when viewed from above.
What were similarities between Native American tribes? They had similar religious ideas, had great respect for the land, and shared an emphasis on the importance of family.
How did hunter-gatherers move from Asia to North America? They traveled over the land bridge called the Bering Strait.

What are 3 characteristics of a Mayan city? Thousands of people lived there, they were independent and ruled by a god-king, and had many palaces, temples and pyramids
What was the social class structure in Mayan cities? The upper class: the best warriors and priests. The middle class: merchants and craft workers. The bottom class: peasant farmers.
What were important Mayan achievements? A calendar and astronomy, a writing system, the concept of zero, and pyramids and temples
What are 2 possible reasons for the Mayan decline? Historians think it could be because Mayans lost faith in their religion, or a drought.
How many calendars did the Mayans have? A religious calendar that had 13 months of 20 days, and one that was based on the sun which had 18 months of 20 days.

Why was the Valley of Mexico a good place to settle? It is a good place for people to settle because it has lakes and fertile soil.
What are 3 achievements of the Aztecs? Calendars, architecture, astronomy, math, trade, military, development of causeways, a city on a lake, and writing.
What was the most important trade item in Teotihuacan? The most important trade item was obsidian, used to make sharp weapons.
What structure measured 200 feet high and 3,000 feet around its base and dominated the city? The pyramid of the Sun towered over the city.
What was the Aztec empire based on? The Aztec empire was based on military conquest and collecting tribute from conquered peoples.

Where did the Incas first settle? The Inca first settled in the Valley of Cuzco, in modern Peru.
Who did the Incas believe their leader was related to? The Inca believed that their ruler was related to the sun god; Inti,
What is the name of the "city in the sky"? "The city in the sky" is also known as Machu Picchu.
Why were the Incas known as a welfare state? They created the first welfare state in that the government took care of people who needed help, such as the very old or ill.
What was the Incas writing system called? Inca never developed a writing system. But, they had a device for counting which was a set of knotted strings called a quipu.
