TermDefinition
Climate Change Refers to the increasing changes in the measures of climate over a long period of time – including precipitation, temperature, and wind patterns.
Global Warming Refers to the rise in global temperatures due mainly to the increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
Greenhouse Is a structural building with different types of covering materials, such as a glass or plastic roof & frequently glass or plastic walls. Receiving energy (in the form of light) from outside; the inside of greenhouse will heat & emit infrared radiation.
Greenhouse Effect Is a natural process that keeps the Earth warm enough for us to live. Gases like water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide in the air act like a cozy blanket, trapping heat from the sun and preventing it from escaping back into space.
Greenhouse Process When sunlight reaches the Earth, some of it warms the land and oceans. The rest bounces back into space as infrared energy.
Hybrid Cars They're a bit more expensive upfront, but many people like them because they pollute less. Eventually, we'll mostly use them, which will save money in the long run.
Nuclear Power Doesn't produce CO2. Needs a high priority to be placed on solving the nuclear waste problem.
Underground A method use to push oil out of wells.
Wind Power Is a renewable energy source that harnesses the kinetic energy of moving air to generate electricity.
Transnational Migration Migration from one nation-state another but participate simultaneously regarding social relations.
Transmigrants Are immigrants whose daily lives depend on multiple and constant interconnections across international borders and whose public identities are configured in relationship to more than one nation state.
Participatory Governance Is a kind of governance theory which puts emphasis on democratic engagement through deliberative practices.
Civic and Political Governance Are those that deal with issues related to human rights.
Development Governance Concerns planning, budgeting, monitoring and accountability of social, and economic development policies and programs.
Inclusive Citizenship Is a government policy that gives all citizens equal access to public services, funds and democratic rights and the ability to represent in government.
Article 15 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Every person has the right to nationality or citizenship and one cannot be prevented from changing it.
Article IV of the Philippine Constitution, Section 1 Includes individuals who are citizens at the time of the Constitution's adoption, those with Filipino parents, individuals born to Filipino mothers before January 17, 1973.
Article IV of the Philippine Constitution, Section 2 Natural born citizens are those who are citizens of the Philippines from birth without having to perform any act to acquire or perfect their Philippine citizenship.
Article IV of the Philippine Constitution, Section 3 Philippine citizenship may be lost or reacquired in the manner provided by law.
Article IV of the Philippine Constitution, Section 4 Citizens of the Philippines who marry aliens shall retain their citizenship, unless by their act or omission they are deemed, under the law, to have renounced it.
Article IV of the Philippine Constitution, Section 5 Dual allegiance of citizens is inimical to the national interest and shall be dealt with by law.
Social Media The use of web-based and mobile technologies to turn communication into an interactive dialogue.
Social Networking Is a social structure with people who are joined by a common interest.
Social Movements Are broad alliances of people who are connected through their hared interest in social change.
Reactionary A type of movement where people desire to turn back changes that have occurred and return to an earlier time.
Conservative A type of movement where people work to prevent changes from taking place.
Escapist/Retreatist A type of movement where people who belong to this type of movement dropout” of society by isolating themselves.
Assimilationist This type of movement is designed to help minority groups become assimilated or accepted into society.
Pluralist This type of movement where they seek acceptance without claiming to be the same as the majority.
Expressive An expressive movement tries to influence how people think and then let them decide how to act.
Alternative A type of movement where they seek to get people to change their lifestyle.
Redemptive A type of movement where they attempt to get people to make life altering changes.
