Social Studies: Chapter 8 Regions: The Southwest

Why is water conservation so important in the Southwest? The Southwest region has a hot, dry climate. Water is very scarce there, it is important that people try to conserve it. Also, with the population of the region increasing, more water will be needed in the future. That is another reason why farmers, business owners, and residents should work together to conserve water.
Why were the Navajo driven from their land? The Navajo were driven from their land by the United States government. The government wanted to stop the conflicts between the Navajo and settlers in New Mexico. They were forced to live on reservations. The journey was very difficult and called "The Long Walk"
What is unique about the Grand Canyon? The Grand Canyon is very unique, It is in Arizona and visited by millions of people each year. At the top of the canyon are forests but the bottom near the river is desert-like. The Colorado River flows through the canyon. The Grand Canyon is one of God's beautiful creations
