Religion A social institution, it signifies patterns of beliefs and behaviors that aid societies to meet their basic needs
Religious Experience Refers to the conviction or sensation that one is connected to “the divine.” This type of communion might be experienced when people are praying or meditating
Animism The earliest form of religion. It is the belief that physical things are occupied by spirits
Monotheism The belief in the existence of one god
Polytheism The belief in the existence of many gods
Religious Rituals These are behaviors or practices that are either required or expected of the members of a particular group, such as bar mitzvah or confession
Judaism One of the oldest monotheistic religions, dating back around 4,000 years. Followers believe in one God, Yahweh, who revealed himself through prophets. Emphasizes a rich heritage of law, culture, and tradition.
Christianity Considered as one of the most influential religions in history. It currently has approximately two billion followers. At the core of this religion are the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
Islam A monotheistic religion founded by the prophet Muhammad in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, around 570 CE. It emphasizes submission to the will of Allah (God) and follows teachings from the Qur'an
Hinduism One of the world's oldest religions, with approximately one billion followers worldwide. Has no specific founder or date of origin, but its oldest sacred texts
Buddhism Is a religion about 3 million people all over the world. It is derived from the word Budhi, which means “to awaken”
Ecumenism Is the movement of tendency toward worldwide Christian unity or cooperation
Tolerance Is the practice of being fair and objective towards those who have a different set of beliefs and way of life
