republic a form of state where the power rests with the people who vote for representatives to rule on their behalf
arsenal an array of resources available for a certain purpose
Holocaust the mass murder of Jewish people under the German Nazi regime during the period of 1941 - 1945
island hopping a military technique used to attempt to defeat Japan. it involved moving from one island to another, conquering each in an effort to get to mainland Japan
aggression an attack or action that requires a response
appeasement giving in to avoid conflict
pluralism a society that has multiple groups or individuals holding power
fascism a political movement that embraces severe nationalism, controlled opposition, and a dictator
collective government run farms
elitism the belief that a small group of the "best" people in a society should be given the power
totalitarian a single party controls the government and every aspect of the lives of the people
dictator a ruler who has complete power over a country
federalism a separation of responsibilities and rights between the federal government and state governments
blitzkrieg lightning war; an intense military campaign intended to bring about a swift victory
ideology a set of ideas reflecting the social needs of a group or culture
infamy something is well known for a bad quality or deed
