Bill of Rights

TermDefinition
1st Amendment freedom of speech, religion, and press
2nd Amendment the right to bear (own) guns
3rd Amendment soldiers can't take over private homes (no quartering)
4th Amendment must have probable cause for search; must have a search warrant from a judge; protects our privacy
5th Amendment citizens do not have to testify against themselves
6th Amendment Citizens have the right to a trial of their peers and to have an attorney (lawyer); protects the accused
7th Amendment The right to have a jury in civil cases (dispute between two persons; suing)
8th Amendment Citizens can't receive cruel and unusual punishment
9th Amendment Citizens have other rights that are not listed in the Bill of Rights.
10th Amendment Power and decisions that aren't of the Federal Government are given to states.
