Open door policy Foreign policy of the US in the 1890’s through the 1920s’ with regards to China; the US wanted for countries to have equal trading rights within China in the line of spheres of influences
John Winthrop Leader of the Puritan church who said that the Puritans should build a city on a hill, they should live their lives so that other people could have an example to look to in order to know what is a correct way of living according to God’s word
Kellogg Briand Pact Signed by numerous countries in 1928 outlawing war except in cases of self defense
Monroe doctrine Declared in 1820 after the US became concerned that European countries has their eyes set on more American colonization; US said that the republican institutions were different from those in Europe and should be left alone by any foreign power;us strong
Bonus Army Group that further hurt Hoovers reputation during the Great Depression; these people protested in 1932 to receive their pension early from fighting in WW1; Hoover sent in the troops and looked more like a villain than a sympathetic president
Proclamation of 1763 GB passed this directly after the French and Indian War to stop white settlers from crossing the Appalachian Mountains, settle and the fighting NA’s in the process; was designed to curb tension, but colonists hated the GB attempt to stop their expansion
Jane Adams Important leader in the Progressive movement (social Justice/ Soical Gospel reformer) opened Hull house in Chicago to help immigrants and poor people
Alien and Sedation Acts Passed during John Adams’ presidency to restrict political opponents from criticizing the president and his decisions; consequently the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions were passed (sate nullify fed law)
Dead Scott Decision The Supreme Court case stated that Congress didn’t have the right to prohibit slavery from any federal territory and that blacks were not considered to be citizens, they were property
Scopes Trial This trial in Tennessee during the 1920s placed religious fundamentalists (Williams Jennings Bryan) against more modern scientists who believed in evolution
14 points Wilsons plan for the end of WW1, the Senate didnt accept this plan because they did not want for the US to be involved in any entangling alliances like the League of Nations
