What specific event triggered WWI? The assassination of Franz Ferdinand
How did one specific event turn into a world war? Alliances all declare war on each other Austria-Hungary accused Serbian government of plotting the assassination. Due to alliances, Russia got into the war to support Serbia. To support Austria-Hungary, Germany declares war on Russia and France
What was the goal of the Schlieffen Plan? Attack France quickly to avoid a two-front war
Why did the Schlieffen Plan fail? Because both sides dug trenches, and this led to a stalemate
Describe Trench Warfare -Warfare that requires long trenches or deep ditches dug as a system of defense -Soldiers lived in them for weeks on end -In between trenches was "No Man's Land"
Describe Trench Warfare's ineffectiveness Because each side gained a little land at a time with much bloodshed
