Explain why a group taking a vote on something is an example of a direct democracy. The group is an example of a direct democracy because everyone in the group has a vote.
How did Pericles choose people for positions in the government in Athens? Pericles appointed people to government positions because of their abilities rather than their social class.
What jobs did Athenian slaves do? Enslaved Athenians worked on farms or in the shops of artisans. They also performed hard labor. Enslaved women worked as cooks, servants, and tutors.
Why did the Delian League break apart? The Delian league broke apart because Athens assumed an increasingly oppressive role, demanding tribute from league members.
What was the most important accomplishment of Pericles? Pericles most important accomplishments were leading the city of Athens, eventually expanding democratic government there, and helping Athens to dominate the Delian league
Aspasia was a popular woman who encouraged women to become more involved in government.
In a representative democracy a small group makes governmental decisions on behalf of many.
The government of Athens an example of a direct democracy.
The age of Pericles was known as a golden age of prosperity, culture, and achievement.
Beginning in 478 B.C. the Delian league served as a protective group and a defensive league.
The Athenian economy was supported by farming and trade in 491 B.C. Sparta and other city-states joined forces against Athens to fight the Peloponnesian war.
Direct democracy worked well in Athens because there was a relatively small number of citizens.
