Causes of Southern Secession Vocabulary

oppose To act against or in opposition to someone or something.
secede To formally withdraw from an alliance or group, especially a political one.
inaugurate To formally or officially mark the start of something.
cease To stop or discontinue.
appoint To select someone by authority or agreement.
candidate A person who seeks a political office or other position.
nominate To recommend someone for a position.
controversy A major discussion or disagreement between opposing views.
debate A discussion involving people or groups with opposing points of view.
