| Inform | Author gives facts & info to possibly teach reader. |
| Entertain | Author wants you to enjoy story by keeping reader attention. |
| Explain | Written in steps for reader to follow. |
| Describe | Sensory language used to detail a topic. |
| Theme | Message or Life lesson that author wants reader to take away from text. |
| Test Taking TIPS | Take it slow, Reread if needed, Highlight, Double check, Use RACE. |
| Figurative Language | Simile - Comparing 2 unlike things using LIKE or AS. Personification - Giving human traits to non-human objects. |
| Summarizing Fiction | Somebody - Main Character | Wanted - what did MC want to achieve? | But - What happened? | So - How does MC deal with it? | Then - How does story end? |
