canal an artificial waterway constructed to allow the passage of boats or ships inland or to carry water for irrigation.

express Operating at high speed.
industrialization the development of industries in a country or region on a wide scale.
stagecoach a large closed horse-drawn vehicle formerly used to carry passengers and often mail along a regular route between two places.
telegraph A system for transmitting messages from a distance along a wire, especially one creating signals by making and breaking an electrical connection.
transcontinental crossing a continent.
