Elements of Drama

TermDefinition
Drama A play for theater, radio or TV
Stage Directions An introduction in a play showing movement, position of an actor or effects.
Dialogue words or phrases actors say in a play or show.
Monologue a long speech by one actor in a play or movie
Soliloquy when an actor thinks aloud or says words to oneself regardless of who hears.
Soliloquy an act of speaking ones thought
Comedy entertainment that is based on jokes and funny sketches.
Conflict a serious disagreement or argument within a play. An actor is endangered or has differing desires.
Asides A dramatic device when the actor playing a character, speaks directly to the audience.
Props Objects used in a performance that isn't part of the set or worn by an actor
Lighting Effects in a play that can simulate drama, mood and different times of the day.
Tragedy Drama in a play or show that is based on human suffering.
