Neutrality | when you do not pick a side during a conflict |
Neutrality Acts | a series of acts to keep American out of the war happening in Europe |
Geographic Context | Refers to where an event is taking place and why this specific location |
German Blitz | The German bombing of London and other English cities from 1940-1941 to weaken the British |
Japanese Internment | Japanese Americans placed in interment camps around the west for national security |
Tuskegee Airmen | group of African American military pilots who fought in World War 2 |
Navajo Code Talkers | is most often used for United States service members during the World Wars who used their knowledge of Native American languages as a basis to transmit coded message |
American Nisei Regiments | The regiment is best known as the most decorated in U.S. military history and as a fighting unit composed almost entirely of second-generation American soldiers of Japanese ancestry |
Lend Lease Acts | Passed on March 11, 1941, this act set up a system that would allow the United States to lend or lease war supplies to any nation deemed "vital to the defense of the United States." |
Holocaust | The Holocaust was the genocide of European Jews during World War II. |
War Crime | murder or ill treatment of prisoners of war or persons on the seas. killing of hostages. torture or inhuman treatment, including biological experiments. |
Manhatten Project | the research and development of the Atomic Bomb |
D-Day | The Allied Invasion of Normandy France on June 6th 1944 |
V-E Day | Victory in Europe day on May 8th, 1945 |
V-J Day | Victory in Japan day on August 15th, 1945 |
Mobilization | nations preparation for war |
European Front | The fighting happening in Europe |
Pacific Front | The fighting happening around the Pacific Ocean |
Island Hopping | Allies strategy in the Pacific where they capture some islands that have a purpose bringing them closer to the the Japanese mainland |
Appeasement | giving in to someones wants to avoid conflict |
Propaganda | information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view. |
Enlistment | the action of enrolling or being enrolled in the armed services. |
Rationing | allow someone to have only (a fixed amount of a certain commodity) |
Car Club | Americans car pooling to work so they ration their fuel |
Scrap Drive | By recycling unused or unwanted metal for example, the government could build ships, airplanes and other equipment needed to fight the wa |
Victory Gardens | Americans growing food at home to help ration produce in the store |
