speakeasy An illegal bar.
bootlegger Someone who transports illegal alcohol.
18th Amendment This amendment banned the sale, manufacture, and transport of alcohol in the US.
21st Amendment This amendment repealed the 18th Amendment, ending Prohibition.
Prohibition A period where alcohol was illegal to make, transport, or sell in the US.
flappers Women who wore new fashions and behaved in "unladylike" ways by dancing, smoking, and drinking.
culture the shared characteristics of a group of people, including art, music, food, language, beliefs, and traditions.
automobile a car
Red Scare A widespread fear of communism and anarchism following WWI.
Ku Klux Klan A violent white supremacist organization formed during Reconstruction; they targeted minority groups such as immigrants, Black Americans, communists, Catholics, and Jews.
immigration quotas These limited the number of immigrants coming into the country based on their nationality.
organized crime Large, often violent, criminal gangs who worked to supply speakeasies with illegal alcohol.
