What did African American land ownership look like during Reconstruction? Shermans promise (40 acres + mule) . 1866 free slaves were given land that made money. Wealthy African Americans tried to buy land but many were rejected
Describe in detail the system of sharecropping Landowners divided their land and each worker had a part to tend to. Workers were in debt because they had to pay their rent for the land and half of their profit went to the landowner.
How did the change in northern support for Reconstruction affect the Republicans? The northerners lost interest and republican leaders died, this made reoublicans step away.
