| Alliance | Countries that support one another during conflict |
| Nationalism | The belief that your country is the best |
| Imperialism | The policy of acquiring territories or controlling other countries to gain natural resources and new markets. |
| Militarism | Competing to build the strongest military |
| Propaganda | Persuasive messages found in posters and songs meant to encourage people to help support or hurt a cause. |
| Lusitania | A British passenger ship, sunk in 1915 by a German U-Boat. |
| Zimmermann Telegram | A secret message sent from Germany to Mexico and intercepted by the British. |
| Assassination | The murder of a high-profile individual. |
| Reparations | Money paid to cover damages caused by war |
| treaty | An agreement between two or more countries. |
| neutrality | Not taking either side in a conflict. |
| U-boat | A submarine; able to stealthily dispatch battleships. |
| Isolationism | The policy of staying out of global affairs. |
