Citizenship Vocab

TermDefinition
civic virtues personal attitudes and behaviors that promote the well-being of the person and the group. Examples include being honest, responsible, respectful, or trustworthy.
citizenship the expected traits (quality or characteristic) of a responsible member of a community
character the different traits (quality or characteristic) a person has that make up who they are as a person
code of ethics a contract of standards that guides citizens' behavior and helps determine what is right and how to act with integrity, honesty, and kindness
philanthropy the effort to increase the well-being of people through charitable giving, such as giving their time, resources, or money
taxes payments that citizens and businesses are required to make to the government to pay for public goods and services
right the freedom to act in a certain way that aligns with the rules of justice, the law, and the community
responsibility something a person is responsible for, and should do because it is the fair or the right thing to do
resources the people and things needed in order to produce goods and services (ex. employees, lemons, sugar, water, pitcher, etc. for a lemonade business)
citizen a member of a town, city, county, state, or country with certain rights and responsibilities
government a group of people that are elected by citizens and manage cities, states, and the nation
representative democracy a form of government in which ultimate power lies with the people; it is a government system where citizens vote for representatives (aka people) to make laws and govern on their behalf
