Why did dating change? Use to have a chaperone but now everyone drove
Why the change? birth control, Freuds thery of sex and sexuality, increase in divorce rate, increase in european ideas, prohibition, women were working inside and outside the house, new technology, women could now afford a wardrobe now with synthetics, her own salary
What did flappers refuse to do? Identify themselves with reform effects, criticized feminism as old-fashioned, and rejected bad attitudes towards sex and sexuality
What did they believe in? They were already equal to men and they would be the first generation to have it all: education, career, marriage, and children
How would they succeed in their goals? Advice from social scientists
After WWI men expected women to go back to their lives before but, what did they do instead? They took flats and studios and continued to earn their livings. They filled executive offices, became organizers, editors, copywriters, efficiency managers, artists, writers, and real estate agents.
The new women broke from what? Their customs and asserted their right to do what they please. ex: cigarettes
