Explain the Sussex Pledge? Given because Americans wanted Germans to stop sinking ships but they broke it anyways because they didn't care anymore. Americans were already involved in the war, they weren't neutral
Zimmerman Note? Britain intercepted the note from Germans to Mexico telling them to join the war. This is when US got involved.
How did we sell War to americans? I want you, advertisements, anti- German campaign, red scare, closed door policy, arrested socialists
How did we pay for the war? Fed Reserves with loans and bonds and income tax
social effects of the war? Women started working in mens jobs and women got the right to vote and alcohol was banned
What was included in Wilsons fight for peace? 14 Points Plan
What was the purpose of the 14 Points? To eliminate blockading, arms, trade barriers, and colonialism
What did Wilson want? Free seas, universal disarmament, free trade, end colonialism, open diplomacy, self determination, and international peace
Were the 14 points realistic? nope
Versailles Treaty? It was based on the 14 points, included US, france, Britain, and Italy. No Germany or Russia.
Wilson's success? Self determination, league of nations, and mandates
Wilson's downfall should have brought a repub
What was the guilt clause? French gave it to the Germans. They would have to state the war is their fault and pay back all the war reparations of 33 million
Why did the US not join the League of Nation? It was replaced by the UN because the republicans disagreed with it, Wilson had a stroke, and US did not want to get involved in foreign policy
