Strike Refusal to work until a group’s demands are met
Strikebreaker A worker who replaces striking workers
Boycott An agreement not to buy goods from a company
Progressive People trying to find solutions to problems during the late 1800s
Muckraker A writer who uncovered “muck,” or shameful conditions in American business and society
Conservation To preserve something
Civil Rights Basic legal freedoms and protections, such as the right to a fair trial
Great Migration The moving of African Americans from farming areas
Temperance A call for people to reduce or stop drinking alcohol
Suffrage The right to vote
Suffragist People who worked for women’s suffrage
