Chapter 12: Struggle for Reform

| Boycott | An agreement not to buy goods from a company |
| Progressive | People trying to find solutions to problems during the late 1800s |
| Muckraker | A writer who uncovered “muck,” or shameful conditions in American business and society |
| Conservation | To preserve something |
| Civil Rights | Basic legal freedoms and protections, such as the right to a fair trial |
| Great Migration | The moving of African Americans from farming areas |
| Temperance | A call for people to reduce or stop drinking alcohol |
| Suffrage | The right to vote |
| Suffragist | People who worked for women’s suffrage |
