Step #Step
Step 1 Stop the service
Step 2 Explain situation to client and excuse him- or herself
Step 3 Proceed to the hand-washing area equipped with first aid supplies
Step 4 Wash your hands with soap and running water and dry with a disposable towel. (If punctured area is on the hand, you would combine hand washing with washing the punctured area
Step 5 Wash the punctured area with soap and running water and dry with a disposable towel
Step 6 Place the disposable towel in the waste container
Step 7 If the cut is still bleeding, apply pressure over the wound with a disposable towel. (Once removed,towel must be immediately placed in the waste container)
Step 8 Remove adhesive bandage and antibiotic cream from first aid kit
Step 9 Apply adhesive bandage and /or antibiotic cream to the cut
Step 10 Place all single-use items in the waste container
Step 11 Wash your hands
Step 12 Apply protective gloves
Step 13 Remove implements from work station and place in "to be disinfected" container, then properly clean and disinfect implements
Step 14 Clean and disinfect station
Step 15 Remove gloves from hands and dispose of immediately in waste container
Step 16 Wash hands with soap and running water, keeping the bandage dry
Step 17 Dry hands with a clean towel or disposable towel
Step 18 If the injury is on the hands, fingers or thumb, apply disposable protective gloves or a finger guard ensuring the injured area is covered
step 19 Return to service
